The celebrations kick off with a long weekend in the Crystal Palace Gardens. From Friday to Sunday there will be more than half a hundred activities as diverse as concerts, workshops and sport. Here are just a few of the many programmes available in detail here on the Agenda:
Mini São João Space
It includes various workshops for paper and ceramic creations, in which all the little participants will contribute to building a June scene.
Mini Porto Blues Fest
2 June, 11:00
Every year, the Porto Blues Fest takes over the Concha Acústica with something for everyone. With this in mind, and in partnership with the Porto Guitar Academy, a mini festival will be organised with songs for grown-ups performed by the Academy's students.
Vehicles and Emergency Equipment Exhibition
A unique opportunity for children to see all the colourful fire and police cars in one place - and even experience what it's like to be inside each one!
Batalha is once again showing the film that premiered last year. Gaspar's Friends is the result of meticulous restoration work on the puppets from the iconic children's television programme from the 1980s, and tells a new story in the city of Porto today.
On the same day, in the morning, there will be a tour of Batalha's facilities specially prepared for families.
Recycled is the travelling version of the band CRASSH, bringing all their energy and interaction to the public. It's a peculiar kind of performance for kids and adults, fun and full of surprises, exploring the sounds of buckets, helmets or interacting musically with the public and objects that cross their path.
On this day, the ‘Phonopentatube’ sound installation also starts at the market, and will be entertaining visitors with its melodies until 5 June.
Through Oficina Sibila, an art education project with roots in contemporary art, Galeria Municipal do Porto is organising a workshop to build amulets.
Armed with string, leaves, twigs, stones, sticks, earth, clay, water and natural pigments, the children will make small objects that will help protect the animals that populate the gardens of the Crystal Palace.
The first visit to the harbour by the famous youtuber Enaldinho takes place at the Coliseu do Porto with the show ‘O Mistério do Circo’ (The Mystery of the Circus).
On the same day, in the morning, the Coliseum's children's programme in the Ático Hall will explore the story ‘7 Vidas’, by Pedro Soromenho and Carlo Giovani.
