This seminar, which is the result of a partnership between the Porto Military Museum and URAP, will address "the conceptual differences between Dictatorship and Democracy, and also debate the state of Democracy today". The seminar will be followed by the opening of the exhibition "25 April and the New Generations" (a programme complementary to that of the Porto Military Museum).
"Allies to Freedom" is an evocation show celebrating the 50th anniversary of 25 April, a crucial milestone in Portugal's history and an enduring symbol of the struggle for freedom and democracy. This show takes the audience on a journey through time, recreating the effervescent spirit of 25 April 1974, when Portugal freed itself from decades of dictatorship. On stage, Canto Nono, Vozes Da Rádio and the Choir of Letters of the University of Porto, as well as a cast of musicians, with artistic direction by Tomás Pimentel, perform iconic songs such as "Times change, wills change", by José Mário Branco, "Liberdade", by Sérgio Godinho, or "Venham mais Cinco", by José Afonso.
The "Aliados à Liberdade" concert starts at 10.15pm, but before that, at 10pm, there is a videomapping show on the façade of the Hotel Monumental. This show, in collaboration with the Commemorative Commission for the 50th anniversary of 25 April and RTP, brings together photographer Alfredo Cunha, musician Rodrigo Leão and artist Vhils. When the clock strikes midnight, there will be fireworks.
On 25 April, at 2.30pm, homage will be paid to the anti-fascist resisters at the Military Museum, the former headquarters of PIDE in Porto. Soon after the tribute, the Freedom Parade will begin with the following route: Largo Soares dos Reis, Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, Rua D. João IV, Rua de Santo Ildefonso, Rua Passos Manuel, Rua Sá da Bandeira, Praça D. João I, Rua de Rodrigues Sampaio, ending at Avenida dos Aliados.
