Agenda Porto: What does the album Cinema represent for you?  

Rodrigo Leão: It's the most important album I've ever made, without realising at the time that it was going to be. I did it intuitively, as I always do with all my work. Without a doubt, it was a record that ended up being much more accepted by the public than I thought.  

AP: What will it be like to revisit it two decades later?  

RL: Exciting... I hope.  

AP: What were your main inspirations for creating this disc?

RL: The cinema. Because in fact my music has always had a lot of that art in it, which is why the title. Another great inspiration was my children, who accompanied me throughout the creation process. António was three or four and Rosa was one when I released the disc.  

AP: How do you start planning a disc?

RL: There's a first phase when I'm on my own looking for ideas and composing, and then there's a moment when I feel that I already have a number of songs that form a whole, and so from there I start working with the musicians and producers.

AP: At the Coliseu show, will the album be presented as it is or will it be edited?

RL: There are some songs that we've continued to play over all these years and there are other songs that we haven't played for a long time, so my concern is to bring together the songs from this album and other songs linked to cinema, with songs that have appeared in films like Mordomo, A Gaiola Dourada, among others. We're very excited about these concerts we're going to do in the coliseums; firstly, because we're celebrating twenty years of a very special album for us and, secondly, because we're going to do a more cinematic concert than the ones we usually do.

AP: Will there be guest artists at the concert?

RL: We're going to have a very special participation from Sónia Tavares, who helped us a lot with this specific work on the Cinema album. And for now, we don't have any further confirmation.

AP: What is your relationship with Porto? Is it a city that inspires you? 

RL: Well, isn't it! Of course it is! Not just because of the city itself, but above all because of the people, the affection they have for music and for each other. It's a very special city.

AP: And about the Coliseu do Porto? 

RL: The Coliseu do Porto is always a very emblematic and special place for me. The audience is very warm, so I'm very happy that we can bring this concert to Porto.
