Located in the centre of Porto, they were designed by Berliner Émile David (1839-1873) as part of the construction of the Crystal Palace building itself. Today, the original design still includes the Émile David Garden at the main entrance, the Avenida das Tílias and Avenida dos Plátanos, the woodland and the balconies overlooking the Douro. On Avenida das Tílias, you'll find the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library, the Acoustic Shell and the Chapel of Charles Albert of Sardinia. You can also admire the panoramic views over the Douro and the city from the various viewpoints. Next to the Palácio de Cristal Gardens is Casa Tait, or Quinta do Meio, and Quinta da Macieirinha, which houses the Romantic Museum and the Solar do Vinho do Porto. The Palace Gardens have been used for a wide variety of activities, such as concerts, theatre, traditional games, book fairs, children's day celebrations, among others.
