Teatro São João welcomes the fourth edition of MUSICAL-MENTE, inspired by the relationships between music and poetry, a set of three monographical concerts dedicated to Vivaldi, Liszt and Piazzolla. Each concert is preceded by a poetic prelude, echoing the intimate importance these composers found in poetry. One major instance of that is Italian musician Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons cycle, which opens this event, curated by Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro. In the very score of the piece four sonnets are written, making it one of the earliest examples of programmatic music. Spring, summer, autumn and winter are conveyed through sounds and words, in an allusion to the passage of time. British-German violinist Jack Liebeck and the Juventus Ensemble lead us through the sensations and feelings of each season, highlighting the closeness between the musical and the poetical languages, be it in rhythmic terms or in their ability to suggest images. The Italianate stage of Teatro São João provides the perfect frame for this Italian journey. — TNSJ
