The 9th edition of Porto Pianofest takes place from 1 to 11 August in the cities of Porto, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Matosinhos. Concerts, masterclasses and free performances are taking place in venues such as the Casa da Música, the Museu do Romântico and the Palácio da Bolsa.
This international music festival features both established artists and new piano talents, in an attempt, according to the organisation, to "bring classical music closer to the general public".
On 1 August, making his debut in Porto, Cuban saxophonist Yosvany Terry will fill Casa da Música with the rhythms of Afro-Cuban jazz, intertwined with sounds from Latin America, the Caribbean, France, Africa and the United States. Accompanying him will be a quartet with an international pianist, bassist and drummer.
Another highlight of the festival is the closing concert in Porto by Swiss pianist and composer Beatrice Berrut, who is making her debut in Portugal. "Abracadabra", which includes an interpretation of Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty", will take you to a world of fantasy and colour, in keeping with the stage chosen for the show: the Arab Hall of the Palácio da Bolsa.
On 30 July, between 10am and 7pm, there's the annual Porto, from to 10am until 7pm, there's the annual Porto Pianofest Marathon, at Mercado do Bolhão, with free entrance.
