Bob Moses
Bob Moses is a legendary drummer who moulded the jazz sound of the 70s and 80s in the bands of Pat Metheny, Paul Bley, Steve Swallow, Gary Burton and Dave Liebman. At the age of 75, he brings together the experience of New York's jazz boom of recent decades, as well as a pure curiosity that keeps him on the lookout for new explorations and directions in music. This is how Ra Kalam Bob Moses, the spiritual name under which he now performs, meets Pedro Melo Alves and Vasco Trilla, two new unstoppable references of contemporary exploratory percussion with strong recording activity on European circuits. The three drummers, who move between the freer currents of jazz and improvised music, come together in a percussion trio, combining their strong personalities and unique resources between compositions and improvisations in a show of profound and unpredictable dialogues, with a strong spiritual character. During their visit to Portugal, the percussion trio is presenting their debut album "Sonic Alchemy Suprema", published by Carimbo Porta-Jazz, with the participation of saxophonists Julius Gabriel, João Pedro Brandão and José Soares.
Axes
One of saxophonist João Mortágua's main creative focuses over the last few years, Axes is a reference project on the national scene that has already travelled beyond borders, touring various European festival stages. In "Hexagon", the sextet's second album, released in 2023 under the Porta-Jazz label, Mortágua definitely takes a step forward in the band's history, erecting a whole new geometric construction on its identity foundations, based on the narrative of angles and polygons. Based on this architectural premise, the music on this new album is firm and impactful, seeking a balance between strength and emotion to fulfil its meaning: a permanent joint construction on the blank canvas that is our passage through this world.
