The nocturnal atmosphere links all the works in this programme directed by the acclaimed French conductor Sylvain Cambreling, a great specialist in the repertoire of the 20th century and of our time. Ravel's Spanish Rhapsody begins with a prelude to the evening, a piece of great refinement and imbued with an intoxicating atmosphere. In Vasco Mendonça's recent score, included in the composer's monographic album for the Naxos label, we find a nocturne in the second movement. From Emmanuel Nunes, the most acclaimed Portuguese composer of the second half of the 20th century, we'll hear Nachtmusik II (Night Music), a work premiered at the prestigious Donaueschingen Festival and forever linked to his period of international acclaim. — Casa da Música
