On Thursday 5th December, starting at 2pm, the Núcleo de Imigrantes das Belas Artes - NIBA will host ROD, a visual artist who is coming to the FBAUP to present a Performative Workshop. This will be the last event organised by NIBA this year, so don't miss it!
Synopsis
Mitologias Cuír is a performance workshop created by ROD and is part of the artistic research project ‘Kalunga: por uma ecologia cuír e negra’, developed by the Coletivo Afrontosas.
The worskhop is divided into three parts:
1) introductory talk on the importance of myths in the construction of cultures
2) Staged readings of queer myths that are part of the histories of non-European societies.
3) Poetic and collective reading from the mythological deck created by ROD.
The workshop uses non-European and queer myths from countries such as the Philippines, Brazil, Zimbabwe, China, Canada, the United States, Colombia, Haiti, among others, as a starting point for decolonising mythical thinking and imaginative ways of relating to the spiritual world. It uses a bibliographical base that includes poetic texts by Audre Lorde, Jota Mombaça, Musa Michelle Mattiuzzi, Octavia Butler, Reginaldo Prandi, Gisela Casimiro, Denise Ferreira da Silva and Tatiana Nascimento.
The main proposal is to offer a collective exercise in the production of imaginaries, based on individual and community experiences, which oppose, in terms of race, gender and the body, the myths that founded Europe and its unique world project. ROD proposes a performative movement of myths in order to activate a fabulatory and fictionalised practice of escapism that manages, or attempts, to subvert the categories of human and non-human, of living and non-living in the search for a reconciliatory protest with other ways of thinking about our existence in harmony with what we call ‘nature’.

About the Afrontosas Collective
The Afrontosas Collective is a Cultural Association that was born out of meetings of black/racialised Curian people linked to the world of the arts, education and celebration, motivated by the absence of projects that reflect on the importance of Curian blackness from the diaspora in Portugal in confluence with migratory transits from Latin America, Africa and other regions. One of the aims of Afrontosas is to foster, promote and disseminate the artistic and educational production of black/racialised cuír artists in order to create intersectional spaces for debate and dialogue between cultural agents at national and international level: More information: https://afrontosas.pt
