As part of Casa Comum's 25th April programme, the round table Contrast | Photography as a utopian device: Rethinking, Questioning Urban Realities aims to debate the importance of teaching photography as a device both for project ideation and artistic creation and for critically analysing and representing architecture, the city and the territory, as well as the way people live in and transform these spaces.
Pedro Leão Neto (FAUP), the project coordinator, will open the round table and present the Contrast project, moderating the debate that follows. The round table will be attended by the following guests, many of whom are coordinators and editors of the Contrast project, namely Joana Caetano (CETAPS / FLUP), José Carneiro (FBAUP / ID + / i2ADS), Maria Neto (CEAU / FAUP - UBI), Mário Mesquita (FAUP / FBAUP / i2ADS), Olívia Marques da Silva (uniMAD/ESMAD /IPP) and Rui Lourosa (ESAP) and the following debate will be on the theme of Teaching Photography as a Utopian Device and will be moderated by Pedro Leão Neto.
We are interested in discussing photography as a utopian device capable of a fictional documentary record, exploring various visual strategies that allow us to rethink and question the identity and symbolic meaning of places and cities, as well as understanding how they are experienced and transformed.
