“REMINDER: Job interview, 9 November 4-7pm” is a moment of fictional interviews for the spectator, for the position/role of spectator. The conditions for the position are presented followed by the clauses present in the “contract of attention between the artist and the spectator”. On a more serious note, standard 10-minute interviews are conducted. A direct interaction with the artist is proposed, one-on-one. The performative action is linked to the spectator's receptivity and the moment of the interview itself is the work.
Sofia Moço Novo (Coimbra, 2000) is a visual artist who lives in Porto and stumbles every day. She laughs at jokes she comes across and writes down expressions, slang words and ideas for advertisements. She's very enthusiastic. If she has something to say, maybe it’s in here somewhere – an invitation.
Her master's project “How to Conquer with Humor” uses advertising language as an artistic format and explores humor and entertainment as engines to address the issue of attention span in contemporary art. The approach of these elements as decompressors in relation to the relationship between spectator-artist begins to encourage Sofia to think of new ways of establishing these relationships and, in a way, being able to enhance a closer and more interactive experience with those who are predisposed to watch. This is what Sofia also wants to start suggesting - that we can paint ourselves into a corner, and that we choose to do so.
She had her first solo exhibition at Galeria do Sol, in 2023, and has been participating in collective exhibitions since 2019. Currently showing/displaying the work "distributions of good omens", at CAPC, in the collective exhibition "É Urgente o Amor", available until December 2024.
