On Friday 29th September, at 9.30pm, Amadeu Baptista will launch his new book of poetry ‘Sobre a Beleza’, with photographs by Alfredo Cunha.
The book will be presented by Joaquim Pinto da Silva and by Margarida Santos.
Reading of fragments of the poem by David Morais Cardoso
‘’About Beauty‘’, by Amadeu Baptista
This long poem was first drafted by the author when he was hospitalised in January 2022 at the Vila Nova de Gaia-Espinho Hospital Centre following a stroke. A testimony to what was lived and remembered, what can be read and unveiled in these verses is the capacity for resistance and astonishment that, in a limiting situation, could still be found in someone who preserved all his questions about the multiple crossroads of destiny, as well as his capacity for dreaming and excitement, despite the contingencies he was faced with in the permanent surprise of being alive. The poem is accompanied by a few photographs by Alfredo Cunha which, rather than illustrating the poetic sequence, harmonise what, being finite, ultimately lasts in each of us, as a search, a questioning and astonishment at the mystery that our innocence erects and establishes.
