Brisbane in the 70s and 80s was a time of cultural upheaval, where fringe creativity could only flourish in the damp and shadowy parts of the city. From these areas came some of the country’s most renowned punk acts, who helped forge a new musical heritage in the city.
John Willsteed was a prominent figure in the DIY punk and post-punk scenes, being a member of The Go-Betweens and Xero. Since his heyday as a musician, John has become an acclaimed sound designer and academic.
It’s Not the Heat, It’s the Humidity is part of his PhD in Music, a show that explores the meaning and identity of Brisbane’s music and musicians.
John will present one show of visual and aural entertainment at Casa Comum, part of KISMIF Conference.
