The first Sunday in May is the day of Our Lady of Lapa, Patroness of the Venerable Brotherhood of Our Lady of Lapa.
Our Lady of Lapa will be honored on May 5 and 6 in a grand feast of joy and devotion. As is tradition, the church will be transformed into a garden of thousands of flowers, a sublime representation of God's creation and the beauty of his work. During the ceremony, in a mixture of faith, reverence and music, all prayers will be elevated by the sounds of musical works by Ferreira dos Santos and Brukner, performed by the Lapa Polyphonic Choir and the Lapa Brass Quintet, under the artistic direction of Filipe Veríssimo. The celebrations continue with Solemn Vespers at 4pm, to give thanks for all the graces received and the good done that day, where you can watch the moving procession of Our Lady of Lapa. The celebrations will culminate with some of the most beautiful music dedicated to Mary, in an introspective Marian Concert on Monday, May 6, at 6pm. The sublime voice of Alexandra Quinta e Costa, soprano, the sounds of Anthony Aarons, trumpet, and Filipe Veríssimo, on the monumental pipe organ of the Church of Lapa, will be the harmonious soundtrack that will bring these days of devotion and festivity to a close
