Into the Maw of the Spectacle, by Laila Haida
Moroccan artist Laila Hida often uses archive material, including images and photographs, to create works of fiction. In this film, a group of artists set out on a mission to explore a new territory with an ancient history, which inevitably turns out to be an exotic fantasy.
Wanderers of the Desert, by Nacer Khemir
The first film in Khemir’s Desert Trilogy, Wanderers of the Desert follows a young teacher arriving at a remote village where the borders between reality and myth are blurred. Here, the inhabitants are obsessed with a mysterious buried treasure, and their children have been cursed to wander the desert sands. As the teacher interacts with those around him, he begins an existential voyage — discovering a world full of folklore and mysticism, where time stands still and the desert becomes a metaphor as much for life as for the unknown.
