After a two-month artistic residency with Galeria Municipal do Porto at the Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré in Tours, France, Maíra Mafra presents ‘Impregnations - The Skin of the City’, a reinterpretation of the exhibition ‘Impregnations’ (presented in Tours) under the curatorship of Margarida Bezerra Bastos. The exhibition will take place at ‘Caldeiraria’, an exhibition space in the Confraria de Nossa Senhora da Silva building, once run by the city's boilermakers. In her artistic practice, Maíra reflects on human and non-human dwelling practices in coexistence, questioning the current separation between the ideas of ‘nature’ and ‘city’, in search of a sensitive ecology that takes the built environment into account. In ‘Impregnations’, the artist shares her observations and contemplations through frottages and pieces made from materials found in the Centre-Val de Loire environment, such as clay, ‘chatons de peuplier’ (white poplar catkins from the region) and cobwebs.
Supported by Galeria Municipal do Porto and Ágora - Cultura e Desporto do Porto, E.M., S.A., as part of the residency programme at the Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré.
