Heróicas is a performance based on the work of Fernando Lopes-Graça, which will mark the release of the album Canções Heróicas, recorded by the Coral de Letras da U.Porto. Lopes-Graça himself challenged the choir to record popular songs right after their first concerts.
The songs, which are "for everyone," were originally composed for choir, with lyrics by authors of the anti-fascist resistance—José Gomes Ferreira, João José Cochofel, Mário Dionísio, Carlos de Oliveira, and many others. They have been performed for over five decades by the Coral de Letras da U.Porto, not only due to the inevitable friendship between the choir's founding conductor, José Luís Borges Coelho, and the composer but also because of the relevance of their political, social, and musical message.
For this celebration, the choir invites Fausto Neves (piano), Nuno Meireles (direction), José Paulo Santos (audiovisual), Manuel Cruz, Rui Spranger, and Sara Barros Leitão. It opens the door to new formats, sharing and spreading the message of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.
