As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of 25 April, Galerias MIRA is screening the film "25 April 1974, Thursday", with pictures by Alfredo Cunha and a soundtrack by Rodrigo Leão.
Alfredo Cunha was the photographer who followed the events of 25th April of 1974 and recorded the most emblematic moments of the revolution through his lens. His is the iconic photograph of "April Captain" Salgueiro Maia in the middle of 25 April on the streets of Lisbon.
This film shares the title of Alfredo Cunha's book, published by Tinta da China, organised into three parts: "Da Guerra à Liberdade" (From War to Freedom), with texts by Carlos de Matos Gomes, a military officer of the 25th of April; "25 de Abril de 1974, quinta-feira" (25th of April 1974, Thursday), with texts by Adelino Gomes, and "Depois de Abril" (After April), with a contribution from historian Fernando Rosas.
Alfredo Cunha will be present at the screening and will comment on the film and share episodes from a Thursday that changed Portugal.
