The exhibition Contemporary Marionettes: Creations and Discourses opened on 15 July 2020, following the basic concept of the exhibition project: the theatre/museum relationship, the creation of shows and the exhibition of plays.
It includes the company's emblematic works (Miséria, Vai no Batalha, Óscar, História da Praia Grande, Teatro Dom Roberto, Os Amigos de Gaspar, IP5, among others), as well as new spaces created with renewed dynamics with the public in mind, namely the experimentation space and the children's space.
The exhibition allows for a diverse enjoyment, capable of transporting the visitor to another place, through the pieces on display, the props, the stories and all the activities proposed in a programme aimed at all audiences.
In addition to the world of contemporary puppets, which inhabit the museum's two floors, in the foyer you'll find a work donated to the company by artist Ricardo Leite, painted and inspired by the puppets from the play Macbeth, by João Paulo Seara Cardoso and Invisíveis, by long-time friend and collaborator Cláudia Ribeiro, our guest for this temporary exhibition, which opened on 29 September 2023 and will remain until 28 January 2024.
In a narrow street in the heart of the historic centre, walking through the Museum's doors has been an encounter with utopia for many visitors. We hope it continues to be so through the exhibition on display. - Isabel Barros
