“A gothic mystic lost by mistake in the 19th century,” legendary conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler referred to Bruckner in this manner. Perhaps he alluded to the majestic constructions of his symphonies, which are compared to grand cathedrals. His last symphony remained unfinished and was dedicated to God. It was written in the mystical key of D minor, the most commonly used in Requiems. It won’t be necessary to reveal much more to understand that we are facing a unique and very special work, written with a devotion that shines through in the sounds of the orchestra. Under the direction of its principal conductor, Stefan Blunier, the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra reveals this farewell to life by Bruckner.
