The complete set of Prokofiev’s Piano Concertos, which is being presented by the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música in 2024, concludes with the performance of the monumental Concerto No. 2 by the Portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro. He has had a prestigious record in international competitions, which culminated in his victory at the Leeds Competition in 1990, and has an extensive discography recognized by international critics. In a programme where the Orquestra Sinfónica showcases its full instrumental exuberance, conductor Michael Sanderling leads Webern’s romantic idyll, depicting a walk through the woods, followed by the pictorial and poetic suggestions of a ballet by Ravel. Whether in its original form or in derived suites, Daphnis et Chloé is one of Ravel’s most adventurous and luxuriant orchestral creations.
