From ‘The Boy Who Wanted to Learn Fear’ by the Brothers Grimm.
EXERCISE-SHOW BY ESMAE'S SECOND-YEAR THEATRE STUDENTS
‘ARREPIOS’ is a play produced by the 2nd year Theatre students at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE) and directed by Tommy Luther. The show is based on one of the tales by the Brothers Grimm, which tells the story of a child who isn't afraid and wants to feel the sensation of trembling and goose bumps. The child is challenged to spend three nights in a castle haunted by objects that come to life and speak poetic words. At the end of the three nights, the child will receive a reward: pleasant or unpleasant. The Brothers Grimm are masters at turning the scary or the macabre into a wonderful and colourful adventure. With crosses of physical theatre, manipulation of objects and puppets, music and voice, this show is for all ages, but especially for those who are still afraid to face the world. For children, fear is a shadow, a colourless toy, the light in the room going out or even the monsters under the bed; when the light stops shining, everything seems to come alive.
