It is with great pleasure that KNOTY announces that will have an “Archetypes of Shibari” Workshop with Inma & Calzxn Roto, in Porto, on December 1st, from 10am to 5pm.
The workshop will be conducted in English and is directed at pairs, but we have two Listener spots available (for people without partners who only wish to observe).
This is an intensive workshop, from 10h to 17h, ministred by the artists and Shibari professionals based in Barcelona, Spain.
In this workshop, we will explore the concepts of shame and exposure through 2 iconic shibari shapes: Kata Ashi and Kemono shibari.
Instead of focusing on perfect form, this workshop aims to reduce traditional forms to their most basic intentions. The archetypal poses will be used as tools to explore and deepen the emotional landscapes of shame, exposure and vulnerability.
This approach allows participants to understand the basic principles and then apply them in a way that resonates with their own physicality, creativity and connection with their partner. It also emphasizes the versatility and evolving nature of Shibari, honoring its roots while promoting a contemporary and inclusive practice.
About the artists
CALZXN ROTO
“Migrante Sudaca, Marica NB” (South American migrant, non binary queer), who from their exploration of their identity, finds the performance virtually within the pandemic parties of ORGIAS SANITARIAS (Chile).
Based in BCN, the performance has continued as a gogodancer in some clubs, as well as in other underground movements of the techno collective.
On the other hand, they have also found a space in BDSM, mainly Lefou Royal and DeSade Festival, being these spaces of physical, identity and sexual dissidence, a paradise where to share their being and their existence.
They meet Inma thanks to the collaborative work together with the writer Dennise Valeria, developing the performative action "Que otros sean lo normal" in the framework of the exhibition HABITAR LOS MARGENES at the Centre Civic Barceloneta.
Inma Gazo
Inma Sáez (she & menopausal) is from Andalusia, based in Barcelona after many years in London.
Shibari artist, performer, activist, teacher, movement researcher and creator of performative spaces.
Inma has been exploring her interest in Shibari and BDSM practices for more than 5 years, has studied Shibari intensively with Pauline Massimo and has trained with artists such as Barkas & Addie, Akechi Kanna & Kagura, Hua Hua, Saara Rei, Boris Mosafir, among others.
She is also trained in the Laban Method of Movement Analysis and studied Performance
Design at Central Saint Martins University in London. Her research is multidisciplinary,
focusing on Japanese bondage, performing arts, Butoh dance and the artistic, social,
psychological and ethical intersections between them.
Inma collaborates with local and international multidisciplinary spaces as an educator in
shibari and various movement-based artistic fields, and continues to produce provocative work as an independent artist.
