Also known as the Viola Alentejana, the Viola Campaniça is a musical instrument used to accompany the famous ‘cantes a despique’ at Alentejo festivals and fairs.
Alberto Rocha, a teacher working for the Ministry of Education, was born in Paços de Ferreira, in the district of Porto.
His love of music led him to learn about the viola campaniça in the municipality of Odemira, where he was taught by Carlos Loução, from the Centre for the Appreciation of the Viola Campaniça. Since then, the viola campaniça has been a great companion. The performance is centred on a taste for sharing the music of Portuguese culture.
