On the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, Galeria Municipal do Porto is organising "Abril Febril", a tribute to the fervent atmosphere of April 74 and a reflection on its meaning today.
Bringing together an eclectic selection of musical projects, "Abril Febril" is a celebration of freedom, of what is yet to come and of the desire for a more plural and inclusive life, uniting generations that claim a common cause: keeping alive the flame of the revolution and the ideals it represents.
The warm-up will be provided by O Triunfo dos Acéfalos, an electro-punk project that combines ethics and a political message with the infinite possibilities of modern electronic music, mixing guitars, synthesisers and intense noise beats.
With the thermometer rising, they join the As Docinhas party. Their energetic concerts question norms through a raw sound of acoustic guitars, punk violin, drums, bass, keyboard and saxophone.
This is followed by Fado Bicha, a project that has broken down the rigid boundaries of traditional fado, reclaiming the queer presence in its history right up to the present day.
The fever will reach its peak with the performance of Puta da Silva. A versatile artist, she claims on stage and in the street the effervescent energy that comes from her voice and body. Based on her experience as an Afro-Brazilian and immigrant, she brings social and political taboos to the surface, resignifying them in a visceral performance.
